Question 1

What is a country risk profile for defence procurement?

Accepted Answer

A country risk profile for defence procurement assesses the political stability, sanctions exposure, arms embargo status, export licence pathway viability, and in-theatre logistics conditions for a specific destination country. SORC risk profiles cover 127 countries across six theatres and include SORC risk tier ratings (1–5), procurement status (Open, Restricted, Embargoed), ITAR/EAR flags, and active embargo regime details.

Question 2

Which countries are currently under arms embargo for defence procurement?

Accepted Answer

The SORC Geopolitical Risk Map and Arms Embargo Registry track all countries subject to active UN, US, EU, or UK arms embargoes in real time. Embargoed countries are marked in red on the risk map and flagged with the applicable regime (UN/US/EU/UK). Current embargoes include measures against North Korea, Iran, Russia, Belarus, Myanmar, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, the Central African Republic, and others. The full list is available in the SORC Arms Embargo Registry.

Question 3

How does SORC classify geopolitical risk tiers?

Accepted Answer

SORC uses a five-tier risk classification system: Tier 1 (Critical Risk) — active conflict, comprehensive embargo, or procurement pathway closed; Tier 2 (High Risk) — significant instability, partial embargo, or severely restricted procurement; Tier 3 (Elevated Risk) — moderate instability with specific threat vectors and enhanced due diligence required; Tier 4 (Guarded) — manageable risks with standard compliance procedures; Tier 5 (Routine) — stable environment with normal procurement conditions. Tiers are assessed by SORC analysts using AI-assisted analysis of live intelligence feeds.
